LIV (Lungisisa Indlela Village) is a non-profit organization founded in 1997 by Tich Smith who had the vision to create a haven for orphan children, to provide a loving environment, care and education. LIV’s core vision is “Rescue a child, Restore a life, Raise a leader and Release a star” and aspires to give life to the isiXhosa definition of “Lukhanyiso” by being “a light to the city of Makhanda” through the LIV Lukhanyiso Makhanda Village.
The proposed development will be located on a site that is approximately 33ha in extent and will comprise 64 clustered dwelling units, a school, a health facility and other social amenities, as reflected in the layout below.
At full development, the facility will provide holistic residential care for 500 orphans and vulnerable children.
MBB will be responsible for this facility’s design and construction monitoring during the construction phase. In March 2023, a meeting was held to introduce the proposed project to the new leadership at Makana Municipality. An Environment Impact Assessment (EIA) is currently being undertaken, with construction planned to be undertaken in phases; commencement is expected towards the end of 2023.
