Golden Frontiers Citrus recently hired MBB to oversee the installation of a new toe drain at one of their dams in Hectorspruit. Being a Category 2 dam, the design and approval process had to be completed by an Approved Professional Person (APP) with the Dam Safety Office’s permission.
By reducing seepage from the dam, the toe drain helps to increase the stability of the embankment. This is accomplished by gathering the water that seeps through the embankment and releasing it in a secure area. The following were included in the works:

- Installation of approximately 400m of perforated drainage pipes.
- Installation of 3 collector manholes.
- Installation of an outlet headwall and measuring device.
- Installation of surface v-drains.
MBB was entrusted with the responsibility to undertake the following tasks for the project:
- Appointment of contractors.
- Providing construction supervision and overall project management.
The project was successfully completed at the end of February 2025.
