Reliable wastewater infrastructure is vital to safeguarding public health and protecting the environment. MBB Consulting Engineers continues to provide professional engineering services on the refurbishment of 3 of the 5-sewage pumpstations for the Blue Crane Route Municipality. They are namely Aeroville sewage pumpstation, Lifting Station and Riverlane sewage pumpstation.

The project addresses ageing infrastructure, vandalism and operational challenges affecting three critical sewage pump stations serving Somerset East. The refurbishment programme is designed to improve operational reliability, strengthen security, reduce maintenance demands and enhance environmental protection.

Major Construction Progress

Construction has advanced exceptionally well, with overall project completion reaching approximately 87% in July 2026 with anticipated completion by the end of October 2026.

Key works completed or underway include:

• Installation of 3m high-security ClearVu and electric fencing.
• Construction of new pump houses.
• Construction of new pond.
• Installation and refurbishment of pumps and motors.
• Construction of new access ramps and sumps.
• Installation of macerators and screening chambers.
• Electrical upgrades, lighting and control systems.
• Installation of ultrasonic monitoring equipment and refurbished mechanical systems.

Protecting Public Health

Once complete, the refurbished sewage pumpstations will significantly strengthen the reliability of the municipal wastewater network, reducing risks of equipment failure, vandalism and environmental contamination. Acting as Employer’s Agent, MBB Consulting Engineers continues to oversee quality assurance, project management and construction supervision to ensure delivery in line with the highest engineering standards.
