MBB was appointed as civil and structural engineers for the “wet collection” building of the South African Institute of Biodiversity (SAIAB). This is a highly specialized facility in which valuable fish and aquatic life specimens are stored for research purposes. The instability and low bearing pressure of the alluvial material resulted in the installation of 46 reinforced concrete piles of 600mm and 750mm diameters.
